The Comprehensive Stool Analysis + Parasitology (CSAP) is an essential diagnostic tool to assess the status of beneficial and imbalanced commensal bacteria, pathogenic bacteria, yeast/fungus, and parasites.
The Comprehensive Stool Analysis is indicated for all chronic GI problems, for acute bowel pattern changes, and for many systemic diseases. Inflammation can cause intestinal permeability and impede nutrient absorption. By analyzing biomarkers such as calprotectin, lactoferrin, and lysozyme, practitioners can evaluate the extent of inflammation caused by pathogens or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Elevated levels of calprotectin and lactoferrin are only present during active phases of IBD, differentiating it from less severe inflammation associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Monitoring these markers can aid in timely treatment of IBD. It is important to evaluate the status of secretory IgA (sIgA) in the gut, as it is the only reliable marker of humoral immune status in the GI tract.

Efficient digestion of food, absorption of nutrients, elimination of waste, and exclusion of pathogens are essential for good health. Poor digestion and malabsorption of nutrients can lead to degenerative diseases, compromised immune status, and nutritional deficiencies. GI dysfunctions, such as leaky gut syndrome, can result from various causes including: Low gastric acid production, chronic maldigestion, bacterial overgrowth/imbalance(dysbiosis), pathogenic bacteria, yeast, parasites, toxic irritants, & the use of NSAIDs & antibiotics.
