It is estimated that 10 to 20 % of Americans have a condition called Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) with a build up of fat in and around the liver. Although having fat in the liver is not normal, by itself it probably causes little harm or damage. A more serious condition called Nonalcoholic Stetohepatitis (NASH) occurs in about 2 to 5% of Americans and can cause significant pain similar to a gallbladder attach.
